Today’s guest is one of the five co-founders and CEO of Smart Cookies, a movement helping thousands of people become debt-free.  Sandra Hanna claims she was “a complete financial disaster” only a few years ago but was able to become debt-free and live a life she only dreamed of once upon a time.  On theSmart Cookies team, Sandra brings sales and public relations expertise, having worked previously in PR. Some more about her company, Smart Cookies has been featured in top news outlets including the Today Show, New York Times, ABC News, Oprah among many others. The site offers real tips, inspiration and advice for how to get out of debt without using all of the personal finance jargon.  Sandra has co-authored two best-selling books including The Smart Cookies Guide to Making More Dough and The Smart Cookie Guide to Couples and Money.  She also hosted The Smart Cookies TV show on OWN Network in Canada.

Three takeaways from our interview:

  1. How sharing our salaries with each other can be extremely helpful.
  2. How the Smart Cookies landed on Oprah. The details of the email they sent to her show’s team.
  3. Her #1 advice for couples as they navigate their finances together…even if they’re not on the same page.

November is all about giving back at So Money®!

I’ve partnered with Joe Saul-Sehy, host of the Stacking Benjamins podcast to host a charity fundraiser/competition the entire month. He and I have each selected a personal charity and our goal is to raise tons of money with your help.

The So Money® charity is THON, a dance marathon and the largest student-run philanthropy held at Pennsylvania State University (my alma mater!) that helps raise money and awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer. You can donate here.

The Stacking Benjamins charity is Texas 4000, a 4,000 mile bike ride that University of Texas students take to raise money for cancer research and cancer related causes. You can donate here.

The podcast that receives the MOST money for its charity will win the chance to write the introduction to the other person’s podcast in January (buhahah!)

We’ll keep you updated throughout the month!
