A couple weeks ago I was doing a victory lap backstage at The Today Show, right as So Money surpassed 100,000 downloads. Because, you know, that’s how I roll. I was all high-fives in the green room when, suddenly, a little magic happened.

A kind woman, overhearing me, turned to me and said, “You know who’d be a great guest on your podcast? Tim Ferriss.”

Me, sarcastically: “Oh, I know! I’d also love to interview Oprah!” I mean, right? Tim Ferriss? The multiple best-selling author, famous for The 4-Hour Workweek, The 4-Hour Body and The 4-Hour Chef. The incredibly successful entrepreneur, investor and podcast host?

That Tim Ferriss?

“Yes!” this divine woman, Tracy DiNunzio, founder of Tradesy.com, insisted. “I’ll text him for you right now.”

I watched her thumbs glide over her iPhone in disbelief.

And before I knew it, Tim was emailing me and we were discussing having him on the show.

And so, it happened. Here is the spectacular Tim Ferriss joining us for a special episode of So Money.

Three key takeaways:

  • How Tim volunteered his time to gain amazing connections and opportunities in his 20’s.
  • How Billy Joel influenced him many, many years ago to become the man he is today.
  • Where Tim prefers to invest his money and why.

ALSO! I’m giving away 5 Tim Ferriss e-book bundles. Each bundle will include an electronic copy of The 4-Hour Workweek, The 4-Hour Body and The 4-Hour Chef.

To be included in the giveaway, do one or a combination of the following things and let me know when you do by emailing me Farnoosh@SoMoneyPodcast.com by Sunday, March 15, 2015. Winners will be announced Monday, March 16, 2015.

This was fantastic – I loved hearing Tim’s honesty and especially the story about his job serving and meeting Billy Joel. He was just so honest, and it was great hearing you being so open as well. I loved the part about your dream! Hilarious, entertaining, and inspiring as well as informational. I am now a Tim Ferriss fan!

Impressive….Tim is an interesting cat. I believe him that he “works” around 4 hours per week. I get the impression he is bored at times

  • Steven Allyn Chen

Thank you farnoosh for the podcast, I got to hear some personal story of Tim Ferris. This helped me realize more that people can really succeed their challenges in the past. The part regarding investing is also an eye opener but I think it will take time to sink to my brain.

    • Farnoosh Torabi

I loved that part of the interview too. Not every type of investing is for everyone. Thanks for tuning in!

  • Ally

    • Farnoosh Torabi

      thanks Raul!! Much appreciated!

  • Steve

Although I listened to this podcast initially to get an idea of how Tim
Invests, the first part of the podcast gave me some answers to a big personal
challenge I am facing. Essentially I am starting life again from basically
“0” at 47 and need to build a new network. There are some other gems
here to especially his attitude to testing a market and long term goals. AA++

    • Farnoosh Torabi

Happy the interview was helpful, Steve! Hope you’ll subscribe!

  • Antonius Momac

I’m so happy that I’m a tim ferriss fan. And that you interviewed him Farnoosh. I really always wanted to do the same, but I don’t think I would have asked such insightful question. I’m hooked, and thank you. I’m so happy you’re doing this and connecting interesting money habits for all types of people out there. GREAT WORK!

    • Farnoosh Torabi

Thanks Antonius! So happy you’re hooked!

      • Antonius Momac

Farnoosh, I cranked through episodes 0-17. SO AWESOME, and yes I do walk a lot and ran ’em at 1.5x speed (except Tony R, he’s already speaking a 1.75 normal speed!). BUT if your read this I want to ask you a favor.
Please add this following question to the mix:
Who is your hero and what is it about them that you admire?
For example, my answer might be: “You’re my hero Farnoosh, a financial and media Athena (goddess of wisdom). I really appreciate the spirit of the media you produce, how you nail each interview with all these amazing people and how much I take away from all the different perspectives. Your mark on the world is fueled by a Godzilla like ambition. And how can you not admire THAT?!”
        – I always want to know who my heroes see as heroes. I would be so grateful if you can squeeze that in every now and again.
